i recently had many profound conversations about The Little Prince with several friends,
& the beauty & poetry of the original texts painted my imagination.
it was perfect inspiration & motivation for me to try creating the starry universe from the book.
not the little prince or his wise fox just yet,
but the quiet majesty of the celestial sphere that the prince wanders through in search of his answers.
the classic story talks about life & ephemerality,
& creating this world from a fragile cake,
to be sliced & eaten on my birthday,
seemed to be embracing the theme very wonderfully!

“All men have the stars, but they are not the same things for different people. For some, who are travelers, the stars are guides. For others they are no more than little lights in the sky. For others, who are scholars, they are problems..But all these stars are silent. You-you alone-will have stars as no one else has them..
In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. & so it will be as if all the stars will be laughing when you look at the sky at night..You-only you-will have stars that can laugh!
& when your sorrow is comforted (time soothes all sorrows) you will be content that you have known me. You will always be my friend. You will want to laugh with me.”
— Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

here’s also to a whimsical nod to the French Bastille Day!
i’ll leave you with some of the exquisite work from Rifle Paper Co. that inspired the paintings on this cake.
& my little online cakery that houses
have a wonderful 14th of July!
