, , , ,

it’s my birthday!
it’s about summer,
& French sentiments,
& being another year older.
sometimes, i feel wiser;
other times, i forget my age.
it always gives me the best excuse to catch up with old friends,
& just have good food, good times,
& cake.
so this year, after baking tons of cakes for other people’s celebrations,
i made my own birthday cake!

it’s elderflower, lemon curd & strawberries,
& earl grey with dulce de leche.
& a cascade of intricate piping, hundreds & thousands, & edible flower petals.
it took me ages,
but if you love what you do,
it is always worth it.

here’s to another year of learning & growing!

my happy, little shop for bespoke cakes

“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. & I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again.”
— Eric Roth, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
